What This Package Does
-----------------------
This package provides ACPI power management support (Fn+F3/F12 keys)
to the following ThinkPad computers for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP users
only under the following configurations:

Installation Guide
------------------
(Note)
To determine if you should update the power management driver, refer
to the "Summary of Changes" section.

ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for this package.


(Windows XP)
CLEAN INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows XP, and log on with the user ID authorized as an
     administrator.
  2. Open Control Panel; then select Add Hardware from Printer and
     Other hardware.
     If you cannot find Printer and Other hardware, select 
     Add Hardware directly.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select Yes,I have already connected the hardware; then click
     Next.
  5. Select Unknown from 'Installed hardware:' list; then
     click Next. (*1)
  6. Click on Finish.
  7. Select 'Install from a list or specific location(Advanced)';
     then click Next.
  8. Select 'Search for the best driver in these locations'; then
     select 'I include this location in the search:'.
  9. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then
     click OK.
 10. Click Finish.
 11. Restart the system.

UPDATE INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows XP, and log on with the user ID authorized as an
     administrator.
  2. Open Control Panel; then select System from Printer and
     Other hardware.
     If you cannot find Printer and Other hardware, select 
     System directly.
  3. Select Hardware tab; then click Device Manager button.
  4. Click View; then select Device by type.
  5. Double-click System devices.
  6. Double-click IBM PM Device.
  7. Select Driver tab; then click Update Driver button.
  8. Select 'Install from a list or specific location(Advanced)';
     then click Next.
  9. Select 'Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.';
     then click Next.
 10. Click Have Disk button.
 11. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then
     click OK.
 12. Select IBM PM Device from Models list; then click Next.
 13. If 'Confirm File Replace' dialogs are displayed, select Yes.
 14. Click Finish.
 15. Close the IBM PM Device Properties window.
 16. Select Yes in the System Settings Change message box to restart
     the system.


(Windows 2000)
CLEAN INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows 2000, and log on with the user ID authorized as an
     administrator.
  2. Open Control Panel; then double-click Add/Remove Hardware icon.
  3. Click Next; then select 'Add/Troubleshoot a device'.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Unknown from the device list; then click Next. (*1)
  6. Click on Finish; then click Next.
  7. Select 'Search for a suitable driver for my device'; then click
     Next.
  8. Select 'Specify a location'; then click Next.
  9. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then
     click OK.
 10. Click Next, then click Finish.
 11. Restart the system.

UPDATE INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows 2000, and log on with the user ID authorized as an
     administrator.
  2. Open Control Panel; then double-click System icon.
  3. Select Hardware tab; then click Device Manager button.
  4. Click View; then select Device by type.
  5. Double-click System devices.
  6. Double-click IBM PM Device.
  7. Select Driver tab; then click Update Driver button.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select 'Display a list of known drivers for this device so that I
     can choose a specific driver' option.
 10. Click Next.
 11. Click Have Disk button.
 12. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then
     click OK.
 13. Select IBM PM Device from Models list; then click Next.
 14. Click Next.
 15. If 'Confirm File Replace' dialogs are displayed, select Yes.
 16. Click Finish.
 17. Close the Wizard window.
 18. Select Yes in the System Settings Change message box to restart
     the system.


(Windows Me)
CLEAN INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows Me.
  2. Open Control Panel; then double-click on Add New Hardware icon.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select 'Unknown Device' from the 'Devices:' list. (*1)
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Unknown Device Properties comes up.
  9. Click Reinstall Driver button in General Page.
 10. Select 'Specify the location of the driver[Advanced]' option.
 11. Click Next.
 12. Select 'Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location,
     so you can select the driver you want' option.
 13. Click Next.
 14. Select 'Other devices'.
 15. Click Next.
 16. Click Have Disk... button.
 17. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then
     click OK.
 18. Select IBM PM Device from Models list; then click Next.
 19. Click Next.
 20. Click Finish.
 21. Restart the system.

UPDATE INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows Me.
  2. Open Control Panel; then double-click on System icon.
  3. Select Device Manager tab.
  4. Click 'View device by type'.

 17. If 'Version Conflict' dialogs are displayed, select No.
 18. Click Finish.
 19. Select Yes in the System Settings Change message box to restart
     the system.


(Windows 98 SE)
REMINDER: Windows 98 SE ACPI support is only supported on the ThinkPad TransNote.
CLEAN INSTALL:
  1. Start Windows 98 SE.
  2. Open Control Panel; then double-click on Add New Hardware icon.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select 'Unknown Device' from the 'Devices:' list. (*1)

  8. Unknown Device Properties comes up.

     name where you extracted this package; then click OK.
 16. If 'Update Driver Warning' message is displayed, select Yes.
 17. Click Next.
 18. If 'Version Conflict' dialogs are displayed, select No.
 19. Close the device property.
 20. Restart the system.

(Note)
*1  When you see several 'unknown' devices, please try the top one first.
    If the installation does not find the hardware information and
    does not complete the process, cancel it and try the next one.


Unattended Installation Guide:
(Note)
 This is for system administrators' use only.

 1. Start Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges.
 2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
 3. Add a directory to the $OEM$ subdirectory on the server
    For example:
     C:\WinDist\i386\$OEM$\$1\PnPDrvs\Power
 4. Add the directory to the OEMPnPDriversPath statement in UNATTEND.TXT
    For example:
     [Unattended]
     OEMPreInstall=Yes
     OEMPnPDriversPath="PnPDrvs\Power;"
 5. Copy all the files in the directory where you extracted this package
    package to the new directory.
    For example:
     copy C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IBMPM\*.* C:\WinDist\i386\$OEM$\$1\PnPDrvs\Power


HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED:
Method 1)
 If you have the original extracted files, find the DISKKU.VER file.
 You can see the version information using a text editor.

Method 2)
 Check the date stamp of the IBMPMDRV.SYS file under the
 SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. For example, 1:00 means Version 1.00.
