I thought about that so I explicitly tried to both start it using
--bind-ip=x.x.x.x
as well as type in bind-ip=x.x.x.x in my.cnf neither did matter.
However I did replicate this problem on my laptop that is also running
RedHat 8.0 and it is a RedHat 8 problem so nothing with vserver. I
have a RedHat 7.0 installed vserver on that same vmaster and using
MySQL 3.23.54a on that vserver and it works beautifully.
I had even tried to stop all vservers but a single one that ran the
mysql service (the master does not run anything but sshd (bound to the
main ip of the vmaster, sendmail(bound to localhost) and something
that is bound to udp port 706 (?) that is all services running that
accepts or listen for ip connections)
