I'd wish that linux-vserver community would act like
a community ... but obviously I'm expecting too much
here ...
@all:
a) please contact Martin and try to help him with
fixing mailmain to be able to subscribe/unsibscribe
b) think about 'distributed' solutions to handle spam
mail (for example a few folks willing to check
each new sender for validity)
c) setup mail servers with greylisting/etc which are
able to act as primary mailserver for the ml
Here are some facts and my opinion, another poll will
follow soon:
1) folks have been complaining since last year about
spam and ml issues ...
2) we are experiencing ml issues since april this year
so it is not a 'minor' issue fixed the next day
3) Martin is responding very quickly to my emails,
complaints or whatever, just he has other priorities
too (not just the vserver ml)
4) the linux-vserver ml is a low low low volume mailing
list, so the same amount of spam acceptable to lkml
for example seems unacceptable for most folks ...
5) none of us likes spam
that said, here is my optinion today:
we should set some kind of ultimatum, and define the
things which should happen to the ml until then
if Martin is willing and able to fulfill those
requirements, then he shall do so, if not we have
to look for somebody else who is ...
don't take this too lightly, as I know that ml admin
is a very hard job to do, because it means that you
only get a message if somebody complains, because
something is not working as expected. you will get an
email (or call) at midnight, and folks will expect the
issue to be fixed immediately
best,
Herbert
