one of fedoras aims is to allow a vanilla kernel
to be used instead of the FC kernels ...
so I'd say if you have issues with the vanilla
kernel this can have two reasons:
a) your kernel config is not suited for that machine
b) your hardware requires a special driver not
included in mainline
while the former can be solved by changing the config
the latter might be simpler to solve by applying the
patches for this specific hardware ...
