I got it: It was a mistake I made when copying one
/etc/vservers/$vserver to another, I forgot to change the run link
afterwards, so that two /etc/vservers/$vserver/run links pointed at the
same file.

You mentioned systemd, so I want to tell that I applied the systemd
patch for util-vserver and did not detect any problem with that so far.
