well, depends, as the ML is archived and folks often
dig out postings from several years ago, I'd say the
following should work:

 - if the information will still be relevant in 10
   years, please attach it, if possible archived
   in a way so that it can be unpacked in 10 years
   from now.

 - if it is just something to 'look at' to solve a
   bug or get an idea what you are talking about,
   don't put it into the email, put it on a well
   known, long lasting pastebin oder server and
   reference it.

of course, if the information isn't relevant at all
simply leave it out, i.e. put the relevant parts in
the email and reference the complete blurp via some
pastebin or server so that curious folks can take
a peek (no need to ensure that it will last forever)

personally I prefer inline for short and relevant
information, over pastebin/external references but
I hate huge attachments which cannot be inlined by
my MUA (mutt in this case)
